This course is not particularly badly designed and not the worst case scenario, but it does demonstrate how easily what originally appears to be a well-constructed page can fall apart.
For easy viewing of the images, pause the movie and use the slider control to move through them at your own pace.
First, let us explore the course opening page using IE5 on a Mac: showing the original colours, the features such as the navigation bars, the icons for quick access to sections of the course, etc.
There is a linked set of Internet Explorer images showing IE5 being progressively adjusted to user needs and the corresponding deterioration, or otherwise, of the WebCT page. (These images were taken on a Macintosh but that is not significant.)
Alternatively, we see a set of Lynx images showing what happens when a common text browser is used to access the page. Many students are known to use Lynx by preference or because they use Unix computers etc. The Lynx version gives a good indication of what is available to a screen reader, thus simulating the experience of a person who cannot see the screen.
